Area Activities - Warrenton/Hammond

Located where the Columbia river meets the Pacific Ocean, these small, adjacent communities have been forgotten by the tourism boom on the coast. Home to many commercial fishermen and crabbers, these are rural working-class towns with all manner of boats in people’s yards, taverns where salty locals hangout and a rich history of explorers, seafaring men and their families. This area is about 15 miles North of Gearhart Ocean Inn .

Fort Steven's State Park:
Established by US Army in 1863, biking , hiking, fishing, lakes, WW II gun batteries, military museum, picnic areas.

Peter Iredale Shipwreck:
skeleton of the old schooner on the sand - better to see at low tide.

Drive on the beach:
You can drive all the way South to Gearhart.

South Jetty of the Columbia River:
1.5 miles out into the ocean, fishing, viewing platform that is worth the drive and climb.

Deep Sea Fishing Charters:
From Warrenton and Hammond boat basins.

Major shopping:
Costco, Fred Meyer, and others along Hwy. 101.

Fort Clatsop National Memorial:
Reconstructed fort of Lewis and Clark.

Clatsop Plains:
Daffodil farms, pioneer church, bass lakes.

Wind Surfing:
All summer on the Columbia River and Young’s Bay.
